ABOUT
My name is Linda Nguyen and my pronouns are she/her/hers. I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker in my private practice called Linda Nguyen Therapy, LLC located in Portland, Oregon.
Thank you for being here. I want to acknowledge the work you have done so far in your healing journey. It can be challenging to seek out additional services for yourself, such as therapy. I believe therapy to be a collaborative process in order to create an opportunity for clients to heal. In this collaborative process, I strive to provide a safe and non- judgmental environment for you to experience insight, growth, feel heard and seen, and make progress within your healing journey.
In regards to my identities, I am a second generation, Vietnamese American, cisgender woman, child of a Vietnamese immigrant and Vietnamese refugee, heterosexual and able-bodied. Because of the identities I hold, my practice includes challenging stigmas surrounding mental health within the Asian American community. This includes practicing from frameworks that are anti-oppressive, anti-racist, trauma informed, culturally sensitive, intersectional, and social justice oriented.
My speciality is providing therapy to clients who have experienced or are currently experiencing domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking and sex trafficking.
Before becoming a mental health therapist, I have been serving individuals who have experienced domestic violence or sexual assault for the last 10 years in various roles such as an Interpersonal Violence Advocate, International Case Manager, and Prevention and Education Specialist. Because of my experiences, I have had an opportunity to work with various systems that impact how individuals heal. Wherever you are within your healing process, I am here to support you.
SEX THERAPY CERTIFICATION
Since my specialty is working with clients who have experienced trauma, I have completed advanced training to receive my Sex Therapy Certification through Sexual Health Alliance (SHA) to provide therapy to clients whose trauma has causes concerns or issues relating to: desire, arousal, orgasm, sexual pain, intimacy, low libido/high libido, sexuality, sexual orientation, sexual interests, kinks/fetishes and pornography.
TRAUMA RESPONSE EDUCATION MODEL (TREM) GROUP
My experience also includes facilitating a support group called Trauma Recovery and Empowerment Model (TREM) for clients who have experienced domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, sexual harassment, stalking and sex trafficking. This model draws on cognitive–behavioral, skills training, and psychoeducational techniques to address recovery and healing from physical, psychological/emotional, sexual, financial, and spiritual abuse.
EDUCATION
I hold a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree from Portland State University. As an undergraduate student, I majored in Psychology and minored in Community Health Education.
I also hold Master of Social Work (MSW) from Portland State University. During the Master of Social Work Program, I completed a concentration in advanced clinical social work practice. The concentration provided me with advanced training in theoretical models that are grounded in strength-based, trauma-informed, and anti-oppressive perspectives that I am able to utilize in my practice with clients. In addition to this concentration, I took courses titled, Social Justice in Social Work, Trauma-informed Care, Racial Disparities, Abuse and Trauma: Theory and Intervention and Advocacy and Empowerment in order to gain knowledge about how to effectively work with individuals who have had difficulty in accessing mental health services due to their age, ethnicity/race, national origin, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, disability, religion, or socio-economic status.
INDIVIDUAL THERAPY
I provide individual therapy to adults.
LENGTH OF THERAPY SESSIONS
The length of therapy sessions are 53 minutes via tele-health (phone call or video call).
FREQUENCY OF THERAPY SESSIONS
The frequency of therapy sessions will depend on the client’s level of care, which includes therapy sessions being once a week, twice a month, or once a month. I schedule therapy sessions on the same day and time, for example every Monday at 9:00AM or every other Monday at 9:00AM. Once you decide what day and time works best with your schedule, that day and time will be reserved for you.
RATES
The rate of a therapy session is $180.00. In addition to regular sessions, I will be charging the therapy rate on a pro-rated basis for other professional services required. Other services may include letter writing, telephone conversations lasting longer than 15 minutes, attendance at meetings or consultations with other professionals which have been authorized, preparation of records, and time spent performing any other professional service.
If you are a client who is able to pay the full rate, you will be providing an opportunity for me to offer a spot to clients who is needing a sliding scale rate.
SLIDING SCALE SPOTS
I hold a few spots for clients who are needing sliding scale rates. Sliding spots will be prioritized to clients who apart of marginalize or oppressed groups. If you are in need of a sliding scale rate, we can have a conversation about this during the phone call consultation or first session.
*Sliding scale spots currently full*
PAYMENTS
I accept all major credit/debit cards. Payments are made through HIPAA-compliant practice software at the end of each session.
INSURANCE/OUT OF NETWORK
I am not an in-network provider with insurance companies. But I am an out-of-network provider with insurance companies. After our therapy sessions, I am able to provide you a superbill that you can submit to your insurance company for reimbursement. If you’d like to utilize your out-of-network benefits, it is your responsibility to understand what your out-of-network benefits are.
Here are some example questions of what to ask your insurance company:
Do you reimburse for out-of-network mental health providers? If so, what percentage do you reimburse?
What is my yearly deductible and have I met it?
What is the process for submitting superbills for reimbursement?
How many sessions do you cover per year?
Note: If you are interested in providing superbills to your insurance company for reimbursement, the rate of therapy sessions is at $180.00 instead of sliding scale rates.
